Brenda Jackson’s Granger series fills two of my 2021 book-ish resolutions; read more series and read off my Kindle.
This series follows the Granger brothers, who are called back home to Charlottesville when their grandfather falls ill. The brothers make him a deathbed promise to run the family aeronautics company and overturn their father’s wrongful incarceration.
Each book focuses on a Granger brother’s romance along with some corporate espionage and mystery elements. There is a pretty sizable cast of characters and a continuous story arc in the background of all three books. I forgot Jess reviewed the third book in the series and I’m not sure how she kept up.
A Brother’s Honor
The first book sets up the foundation of Granger’s social and professional circles. Our hero is Jace Granger, a government attorney who is the most okay with dropping his career to run the family business. He falls for Shana Bradford, the consultant brought in to turn the company around. The romance is your basic two nice, responsible, successful people falling in love despite their best efforts not to have a workplace relationship. – ★★★+.5
A Man’s Promise
Book #2 is a second chance romance between saxophonist Caden Granger and his childhood love Shiloh Timmons. Shiloh’s emotionally abusive family kept them apart before, but they aren’t letting that happen again. I can’t say this one stood out and felt skippable. It does have a little bit of a mystery plot but it’s not connected to the larger series arc. – ★★★
A Lover’s Vow
This was my favorite of the series. Dalton Granger is the youngest Granger. He’s an ex-football player, ex-spy, and current billionaire playboy with a penchant for older women. He’s snarky and says what is on his mind, which makes him a perfect match for private investigator Jules Bradford. I loved the sizzling, hard-won, hate-to-love romance. Sometimes the Grangers came off as too perfect and I liked how Dalton was more complicated. This book also sets up The Protectors series which follows ex-cons turned bodyguards. – ★★★★
Overall I thought this was an entertaining series. I think my next Brenda Jackson stop will either be Catalina Cove or The Protectors.
There is a fourth book in this series, Captivated by Love, that follows the Granger brother’s Dad but I’m a little burned out on the series so I may come back to it.
