Wins and Losses is my kind of sports romance. I’m fascinated by the communities formed around sports teams and that’s where I like my sports romances to take place.
After her father is gunned down, Carmen Wellington returns to her hometown to help her brother Jordy, the star basketball captain, through his senior year. Raising a teen is a handful but Carmen gets plenty of help from the passionate and very single basketball coach, Nasir Valentine. Naris and Carmen initially bond over their attempt to keep Jordy on the straight and narrow but soon sparks fly.
I liked the way this book embraced family and community. As a former college basketball player Carmen is more than happy to give pointers and unsolicited coaching advice to help Nasir’s team succeed. Jordy could have easily been a plot moppet and I liked that he was shown as a flawed but caring teenager.
Nasir’s dark past and the circumstances of Carmen’s father’s murder provide an extra layer of plot to this hot and heavy romance
